Beware Of The WSO!

March 22nd, 2009

One of the largest gatherings of Internet Marketers anywhere is the Warrior Forum.  It is a great place to get answers to questions, with a generous helping of opinion thrown in for free.  But that’s the way it’s supposed to be in an open forum.  Everyone can share their opinion.  And that’s a good thing.

But beware of the WSO section of the forum!  The Warrior Special Offers (WSO) is where members are able to offer their own products or services to other members, and to the internet community in general.  One of the premises is that what is being offered must be at a substantial discount to it’s current market price.

For example, if I wrote a book about blogging, and sold it online for $27, I would be expected to offer it as a WSO for maybe $7-10.  Sounds great, right?  As far as price goes, it is great.  But here’s what happens.  Everybody and their cousin think they are an expert at something.  So they throw together some re-written POS and offer it as a miracle cure.

If you want a good laugh, go to the WSO section and read some of the sales letters there.  Basically, they make it sound like you can buy their product, go to sleep, and wake up with a Ferrari in the driveway of your new Beverly Hills mansion!  To add insult to injury, “successful” marketers team up and offer “unbiased” reviews of each other’s products.  In my example, I would have a friend write a glowing report of my blogging book, even though it stinks.  Then whatever POS he put out, I would write a glowing recommendation for it as well.

There are some good people hidden beneath the muck.  I only know of three, however.  They are Tony, Don and Jeremy, who I’ve linked to on this page.  Other than that, I have not met anyone I would recommend, or trust.  Of the 10 or so purchases I’ve made there, thinking I was getting a good deal, I have had no choice but to request a refund on at least 9 of them!  Unless it is offered by Tony, Don or Jeremy, or recommended by them, STAY AWAY!

SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK - NO LIFE GUARD ON DUTY!

Oh yeah, and when you do ask for a refund, get ready.  You are about to be reunited with the kid from the 3rd grade who could dish it out but couldn’t take it!  You know the one.  The big talker, who had all the answers, but when the chips were down, turned into a huge cry baby!  Well, he’s still alive and well, and is located at the Warrior Forum.

Again, the WF is a great place to exchange ideas and information.  It’s a shame that the “snake oil salesmen crybabies” who call themselves marketers are allowed to get away with murder.  So beware, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Check Out ZEMANTA

So what the heck is Zemanta anyway?  Even though I just found this super cool blogging tool, it’s already one of my favorites.  Thanks for introducing me to it Tony!  Zemanta makes finding graphics or photos to add to your blog posts a snap.  It’s all done on the fly, in real time.  The graphic just above I added in about 2 seconds while tying this.

Also, at the bottom of this post you will notice some related articles with embedded links to them.  Now, I spent maybe 3 seconds each searching for these.  Zemanta, puts these items at your fingertips as you type.  The formatting, coding and everything is already done for me.

Zemanta is available in a WP plugin and also as a Firefox addon.  I am running the script through my Firefox browser, and not as an installed plugin, just my personal preference.

There are many SEO benefits and features that I’m just now learning.  See the autolinking in this post?  It’s extremely intuitive and reacts to your content. I’m sure that I’ve only scratched the surface, but you’ve got to check them out, and give this tool a try.  I don’t even know what I’m doing with it, but I love this thing.

Site Flipping Fool?

March 3rd, 2009

Here it is March. Will I be another site flipping fool? I decided sometime back to combine my WordPress and article writing skills and forge them into a new business model. I’ve built so many WordPress blogs and written so many articles, I decided I would package them together into a website and offer it at the SitePoint Marketplace. For the last month, I have been gearing up for this endeavor.

I’m sure you’ve heard of site flipping or blog flipping. The basic idea is simply to take a new or underdeveloped website and show it some love. Through proper promotion and optimization we will get some traffic to our site. If our site can generate some sales, it is even more valuable. This is what I have been doing all along. Building websites, getting them links and traffic, and steadily building sales.

Around a month ago, I was introduced to this concept. It didn’t take long for a lightbulb go off in my head, and for me to realize I was already in the same business. Over time, I have developed a system for getting traffic and building links fast. Now, I have sort of a standard promotion I put all my sites through. In my opinion, a potential client would benefit greatly from my efforts. In other words, a client would be purchasing a “turnkey” website. One where the initial hard work has already been done.

So during this month, you will find me over at the SitePoint Marketplace. I will post my progress on this blog, and keep you updated on my progress. This is a very exciting time for me I’m looking forward to building new client relationships.
